Heart and Soul

garden-5x8-finalA Love Story for the Heart and Soul

Winner of the prestigious Premier’s Book Awards in Western Australia.

Inspired by the Upanishads ancient poems that teach pure awareness, this unique book speaks directly to the heart and soul of every reader, revealing a beautiful vision of a perfect world. A love story that transcends all time and space and the illusion of separation, told in simple lyrical style with dazzling illustrations.

This gentle tale weaves together a world of unity where opposites play together in a deep absorption of what is real and what is illusory. Told in four parts: The First Awakening, The Sleeping, The Dreaming and The Reawakening, The Garden mirrors the Upanishads Three States and One Reality: Waking to an outside world, Dreaming in the mind, Dissolving in deep sleep and Awakening to pure awareness.

The condensed narrative contains deeper meanings so designed that each reader needs to think about the words through a sustained process of inner reflection. Each reader will discover many different levels of meaning and this will lead to their own individual “awakening” in The Garden. The Garden is a parable about the origin of life that gently opens the heart, allowing the reader to experience oneness: a self-realization where feelings, thoughts and perceptions are seen as the ever-changing appearances of awareness itself.

Enlightenment is simply the art of being. The art of love. An openness, where everything and nothing are one. The cup and water, though not joined together, they are one. We are all connected to the origin of life. The boundless all. The clear state of being awake. The invisible source of being. Inside us there is peace and happiness. It is our home. So journey into life, journey into the fullness and perfect presence of oneness and see the wonderful miracle that you already are.

“It is the beautiful illustrations of sacred geometry woven into Celtic patterns and nature’s gifts that makes this little book really special. The reader is taken through a love story of the soul and I could not help but think of that other great poem of love by Khalil Gibran, The Garden of The Prophet, as I read through these pages. This is a book to languish over in the quiet of your mind and can be used as an excellent tool for inspiration, illumination and opening of the heart.” — Elizabeth Peru, Insight Publishing

We Exist in a Nonduality Universe

Nonduality Universe Illustration

Do you have some place where you are more yourself than anywhere else? Do you have some place where you really belong?

The universe is showing us how to be ourselves. Just for a moment drop the idea of a world ‘out there’ and a you ‘in here.’ Stop all thought. Without using memory, ‘Who are YOU?’ While maintaining no thought, no memory, notice a presence is here, and whether you are being a memory of ‘you’ or not, that unchanging presence is witnessing all that is happening. While mind is constantly changing, awareness remains perfectly unchanging. As life transforms between each moment, awareness observes what is changing but remains unchanged. A canvas is not primarily affected by what is painted on it, just as silence is not changed by what music is played. So it is we know change, by that which does not change. We experience relativity, time and space, by that which is absolute, timeless and spaceless.

I am Not, but the Universe is my Self.
— Shih-t’ou

Abiding in the heart is pure awareness. It is here that soul is present, reaching out behind the construct of mind, communicating through our emotions, thoughts and body, informing us when we have wandered off course. Soul is guide and protector, map and compass; it illuminates the way, so we remain true to our chosen path. Fate is not entirely conditioned by upbringing or circumstances; soul has already mapped its course and we shape and create our own destiny, moment by moment, by what we think and how we act.

On a clear mind, we sail over the horizon of ordinary awareness. Where thoughts incessantly rise, the sea is troubled, and the waves prevent a passage to peaceful shores. All is calm when mind is withdrawn from the world and we look into our heart.

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.
— Carl Gustav Jung

Awakening is recognising all appearances are illuminated from the light that shines in our heart. When subjective mind ‘in here’ has ceased objectifying ‘out there’ we realise we are, at the centre of ‘no-being,’ the source of all that is.

‘Who are YOU?’

We are everything, everywhere, and simultaneously, there is no who, no you, anywhere to be found. Having transcended our personal objective existence, we realise the inconceivable is-ness of being.

Released from this conditioned idea of our personal objective existence, we are FREE.
—Wei Wu Wei

We are, in essence, the sea of pure awareness and waves are the changing world of our perceptions, thoughts and feelings. To know pure awareness is to know the meaning of the words: What we are looking for is what is looking. Mind is a wave looking for the sea. In dissolution of the wave—we walk on the still waters of pure awareness.

To be yourself, stop imagining yourself to be this or that. Just be. Let your true nature emerge. Don’t disturb your mind with seeking.
— Nisargadatta Maharaj

Nonduality Consciousness

NONDUALITY is to live as you truly are

Nonduality-Voyager: The art of awareness book. Peliguin PublicationsNonduality is where we can reflect the changing surface of our minds [waves], back to our unchanging consciousness [ocean]. The true meaning of the word consciousness is not a personal thing, but an impersonal no-thing.

Consciousness is not personal, not ours, it is a shared principle like the air, or the rain, or the blue in the sky. Consciousness is where all the things of this world appear to us. When you look at a tree, see that the tree is also consciousness appearing as its wave-form. So your consciousness of that tree is also the tree being your consciousness.

Consciousness is a single principle of everything that is shared in common by everyone. Seen in this way, the word ‘consciousness’ takes on a meaning quite different from mental, emotion and physical perception.

Perception then is only a partial appearance of consciousness, a piece of inform-ation experienced by our faculties of mind, body and senses. Our true self is consciousness, the infinite ocean, out of which arises the waves of our individual-ness. So beyond our seeming differences and appearances of personality, we are the same ocean of oneness that is pure awareness.

Perceptions change with changing mind but consciousness stays unchanging. It is impersonal and quite unaffected by the changeable conditions of our bodies and  minds. The blue in the sky stays the same, no matter what the changing weather.

Consciousness is pure illumination. It is the commonly shared, underlying principle of light which illuminates all appearances.

Where perception is partial and belongs to the physical world, consciousness is completely impartial and formless.  It is where the world arises from. Duality is where there is experienced an object with the idea that there is someone separate from and perceiving that object. Nonduality is where what is seen and that which sees is the same. The seer and the seen are identical. Consciousness is the ocean and the waves that rise from it. The world of appearances are the illumination of consciousness which rise up and dissolve back as waves. At this underlying basis of consciousness, there are no appearances, no objects, no events, no names, no forms, no qualities, no time or space. There is only pure illumination, pure awareness, quite unaffected by all the pictures and stories that arise from it.

Consciousness is all there is. Everything is established upon the formless base of consciousness.

The world comes after consciousness;
and it is here, in consciousness,
that all the world is found to stand.
Consciousness is all there is.
One who knows self as consciousness
has risen, from the seeming world,
to this unconditioned state
where everything is only light.
– Aitareya Upanishad
